Since joining Ergro in 2024, Adam has made significant progress throughout his apprenticeship. He has built his confidence, strengthened his technical skills and taken on greater responsibility, including working independently on site.
Now continuing to develop his qualifications and experience, Adam is building a strong foundation for his future career in engineering.
🔸What attracted you to Ergro and joining an apprenticeship?
“Before I started working at Ergro, I was working for a steel fabrication company, working on steel pallet shreds, fitting them on site and working with steel structures.”
🔸What attracted you to Ergro?
“So, what attracted me to Ergro was I knew when I was joining that I was going to be getting an opportunity to become qualified in something, in a role where there’s a big future in that industry. So that was something that attracted me to want to join. I think with Ergro, there’s a very supportive network, there’s a good set of people in the company. I felt completely at ease from the first interview I had when I came down and when I went out on site for the first time with one of the engineers, they made me feel very supported and gave me a lot of confidence from the start.”
🔸What is your apprenticeship course?
“I am enrolled onto a refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps level three course. I’ve just completed my FGAS now, practical and theory, so now I’m just going into the final year.”
🔸How have you developed as an engineer?
“I think I’ve developed massively since joining Ergro. I feel like it’s really improved my confidence, and the people around me have given me that confidence boost I needed and given me the opportunity to work independently and put that trust in me, which I think has helped in many ways to improve where I’m at.
When I first joined, I had quite low confidence, and since then, it’s improved. I was unable to carry out a lot of technical tasks and stuff like that, but now I’ve been put on sites independently and been trusted to do services, carry out small repair works, things like that, which have helped to improve me as an engineer.
Since joining Ergro, I’ve also been involved in numerous courses, including Asbestos Awareness, which is on the MyCompliance portal, and that’s got lots of different courses that I’ve taken part in as well. I’ve done a PASMA course, which basically allows me to build mobile scaffold towers on site, and I’ve also taken part in first-day training courses.”
🔸What do you like about working at Ergro?
“What I like about working at Ergro is the variation in work that we do. Each day is different. So, one day we might be carrying out a service, the next day we might be changing a compressor on a unit, repairing a system, things like that. Because each day is different, it keeps it motivating and keeps me excited to go to work. I also enjoy working alongside my colleagues who I get on with on a down-to-earth level, outside of work as well, which really helps. Also, I’ve been given a van now, so I’m driving around independently and I can go from site to site and play my music on the way to work, which is nice.”
🔸Would you recommend an apprenticeship at Ergro?
“For anyone that’s considering an apprenticeship at Ergro, I would highly recommend it because as engineering in general offers longevity, some of the trades involved in Ergro, such as the heating, the gas, the refrigeration and air conditioning side, building services, they’re all going to be trades that are going to be long-lasting. It gives you an opportunity to get qualified and from there on you can improve your skills and build yourself up as an engineer from there.”
